The England Handball Association (EHA) is delighted to announce the appointment of two new Ambassadors: Lucy Thornewell (@thornetrainswell) and Tabatha Dann Ward (@tabbyoncourt). Both athletes currently represent the Great Britain Senior Women’s team, and each brings a strong voice, a passion for growing the sport, and an authentic connection to the handball community.
Lucy, who plays her club handball for Loughborough as well as being a University of Nottingham Sport Scholars, and Tabatha, who competes for Loughborough, were both standout participants in the Legends Game in December 2025, showcasing their talent, leadership, and ability to inspire players of all ages.
As Ambassadors, Lucy and Tabatha will help shine a brighter light on handball across England celebrating the sport, its people, and the growing opportunities for athletes at every level. Their presence is especially meaningful as two brilliant female advocates whose visibility and influence continue to strengthen the pathway for women and girls entering the game.
Lucy shared her excitement about taking on the role:
“I’m really grateful for the opportunity to take on the role of England Handball Ambassador. I’m excited to share my love for the sport, inspire more people to get involved, and help grow a stronger handball community across England.”
Tabatha reflected on the importance of giving back to the sport that helped shape her journey:
“Growing up through the England handball pathway has been so important to my growth as an athlete and human being. Now getting the opportunity to share the sport with even more people is very exciting and I’m very grateful to take on this role!”
Their combined experience, both on the international stage and within the English development pathway, positions them perfectly to help elevate the profile of handball nationwide, with a particular spotlight on the rising momentum within the women’s game.
The EHA is thrilled to have Lucy and Tabatha join the ambassador team and looks forward to working with them as they help champion the sport and inspire the next generation of players.
