England Handball’s National Schools Competition is moving to the regional stages after thousands of budding handballers from 500 teams took part in the Local and County rounds.
Just 40 teams remain in contention for the trophy, with the competition’s next matches set to take place in April and May.
With u13 and u15 Boys and Girls sides competing for the title, the matchdays are being split into five regions: South Central, South East, West, East and North.
A handful of winners from the regional rounds will then progress through to the National Finals hosted by England Handball, set to take place in Nottingham in June.
Stacey Andrews, National Club Development Manager, said: “We’ve seen some brilliant handball already this year, after an overwhelming response from schools to take part in this year’s competition.
“It’s clear that handball’s popularity is still surging in schools and it’s easy to see why – it’s one of the most exciting, fastest growing sports the world has to offer.
“In terms of the National Schools Competition, over 500 has been whittled down to just 40, so we’re really getting to the exciting end of the competition. Good luck to every school taking part!”
Oxstalls Sport Park, Leyton Score Centre, Cambridge University and Oldham Leisure Centre are among the host venues for the match days.
The first took place on April 17, when the South East u15s headed to Leyton Score Centre. The final matchdays are scheduled to take place on May 2, with u15s in the East division facing off at Cambridge University.
